My personal view on things. This has great promissing future - let's make sure it does happen

Detailed in a long post here -

Next steps. On how to get this initiative to fruition -
1. Form a strong group that is willing to offer help. Post a public list of the people, what they are willing to do and when, how and what is needed, so everyone will know what can be contributed, how they can collaborate and what is needed to help out. Also, create a call for action badge - A badge to be shared among members of the Cantina. On the page provide a list of action items people can help with.
2. Community work should be focused at providing a solid framework for connections and collaborative learning. The Cantina should form a list of people willing to contribute knowledge and time to educate and teach from their own expertise, this list should be public on the site to encourage others to contribute as well. It is also the start of the Cantina, even before there is an actual physical place.
3. Public list of companies that will be interested in partnering and provide assistance or donations.
4. A meetup, in continuation to the first 'launch meeting'. This meetup should be focused on building a community and finding more stakeholders, investors and sponsors.

What do you think?

thanks a bunch for the write-up, it is really important for people to talk about this project, on this site... but also outside of its confines.

  1. Go badge go. We have a great logo. Which will make for a great badge. I would propose something that is an action item... with a link to an action item on the cantina site. Something like "Hacantina - I will make it happen".
  2. In order for this to work, there need to be high quality events (BarCamps, Mashpits, whatever). These are inexpensive to organize but require quite a bit of experience to really have them work. Anyway my suggestion is for you guys to focus all of your energy on the single goal of opening the place. And ofcourse something like 1 month prior to opening be sure there is a working group on content... and on the first events.
  3. Well this is part of what they pay for. So of course, as soon as we get sponsors... we should cry that on the top of each mountain...
  4. Regular meetups are important. They don't need to be highly organized and expensive. Just pick a coffee house or a bar and say: people who want to engage in this project show up on the 25th of may at this hour. Everyone pays for his own drinks/coffee. Someone takes notes and will publish to the site. At a great minimum you need to hold one of these every month. It would be better to have one each two to three weeks, and a more formal meeting during working hours once a month for the "association"

thnx again,

Ori.

Sorry, no chance for me to be present on a meetup. (I'm located in Ukraine).
What kind of help can I be? I work as a web developer.
